Luke 19:1–10

Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In Jericho lived a man named Zacchaeus. He collected taxes, and he took more money than he should. So he was rich, but nobody liked him.

One day Jesus came to town. Zacchaeus wanted to see him, but he was short, and the crowd was tall. Hop, hop! He couldn’t see a thing.

So Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed up, up, up into a sycamore tree. Now he could see!

Jesus stopped right under the tree and looked up. “Zacchaeus, hurry down! I’m coming to your house today!” Zacchaeus scrambled down, full of joy.

Some people grumbled, but Zacchaeus was changed. “I’ll give half my things to the poor,” he said. “And if I cheated anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much!”

Jesus said, “I came to find and save the lost.” Jesus loves me and can change my heart!

Talk about it

  • Why do you think Jesus wanted to visit Zacchaeus?
  • What is one kind thing you can do when your heart feels changed?

Pray together

Jesus, thank you for loving me. Please make my heart more like yours. Amen.
